Join me in congratulating the recipient of the inaugural company “safety” honor named for legendary crew member Captain Richard Goben. Captain Brian Gavin, from Northern California port, was the first of what will be now known as the “Captain Richard Goben Hornblower Safety Award“. Gordon Loebl,Senior VP, Maritime & Engineering from Hornblower Cruises & Events said: “Congratulations to Brian for doing an exemplary job ensuring the safety of our guests and crews and hats off to all our nominees for demonstrating a solid commitment to reducing risks and improving safety across our entire fleet!
Captain Richard Goben died of complications from pneumonia in January 2016. He was 62. Goben, a former Coronado resident, resided in Descanso at the time of his passing. Born the youngest of three children in Great Lakes, Illinois, to Capt. Howard and Virginia (Halligan) Goben (USN, Ret), he was raised in a military family but never saw service himself. Still, he had the utmost respect and admiration for our military men and women.
