Last weekend we had an early sighting surprise of both a Blue Whale and several Fin Whales. Not only are these the first sightings of both species for the season, they are also much earlier than normal. Typically, we don’t see Blues or Fins until mid- to late-summer. The Blue Whale is the largest animal on Earth, reaching lengths of more than 90 feet (the length of 2 school buses parked end-to-end). The Fin Whale is nearly as large, with adults measuring up to 85 feet long. Both species are always impressive to see up close, and we hope to have many more close looks at these magnificent whales for the rest of the season.
