San Diego’s Legendary Weatherman to Blow His Horn on Hornblower Cruises

Dave Scott and Bobby Lanuza of the Dave Scott Duo will perform weekends on Champagne Jazz Brunch Cruises

When he’s not telling KUSI-TV viewers about the latest weather blowing through San Diego, Dave Scott is blowing through a trombone to jazz loving audiences. He’s quite the recognized man about town with both his television and live appearances.

Hornblower Cruises & Events is proud to announce that Dave Scott will be performing with captivating keyboardist with Bobby Lanuza (see bio below)  weekends in San Diego on Hornblower’s Champagne Jazz Brunch Cruises, starting April 6th.  To reserve a brunch cruise with Dave Scott visit the website or call 619-686-8700.

Originally from Canada but raised in Hawaii and Southern California, Dave saved his money from a paper route to buy his first trombone and took lessons from legendary Louis Armstrong trombonist, Trummy Young. At Hawaii’s Kalaheo Intermediate School, he won several band awards and earned a two-year scholarship with the Honolulu Symphony. At Kailua High School, Dave learned from former Stan Kenton trumpeter Norman Baltazar and has studied with friend, mentor and legendary Trombonist Bill Watrous.  Watrous can be heard on Dave’s latest CD “One Big Beautiful World” which picked up a nomination for Best Jazz Album at the 2018 San Diego Music Awards.

After studying at the National Weather Service, he landed a position in San Diego as the weekend weather anchor for KUSI-TV. Dave now holds Bachelors in Meteorology from MSU and a Seal of Approval in Broadcast Meteorology from the American Meteorological Society and was an inductee into the NATAS Silver Circle.
In 2017 he celebrated his 25-year anniversary on television. In addition to broadcasting the weather, Dave produces a regular show on KUSI called Dave’s World of Wonder. Click for archives.

As an accomplished jazz trombonist and composer, Dave has been the featured soloist at numerous concerts including the San Diego Chamber Orchestra with Jung-Ho Pak and the San Diego Youth Symphony.

Recently, Dave played in the trombone section of the San Diego Symphony Pops backing American Songbook Legend Michael Feinstein and as a guest performer with the Tifereth Israel Orchestra featuring his original compositions arranged and orchestrated by Latin Jazz great Irving Flores.

He has also had the chance to sing and share some unique musical moments with the likes of Steve Allen, Robert Goulet, Mel Torme, Bill Watrous, Toni Tenille, Ed McMahon, Jimmy Buffet, Carol Channing and even Wayne Newton and CNN’s Larry King.
His compositions have been featured on radio and television including KSDS Jazz 88, KUSI, with KYXY’s Jeff and Jer, and Jazz KIFM’s Morning Drive Show.
